HBS Author’s Spotlight – Class of November 2016

This month we have a group of interesting writers with worlds of knowledge and expertise. The author interviews are a MUST read.

Be sure to check out what they have coming next for their readers. I try to pick authors who are interesting studies and ask them unique questions for our Q/A section.

Check out the Showcase feature of the HBS Author's Spotlight. I have included those authors in this class. Also, we have added the Author Bundles we have posted this month.

Thanks to the following outstanding authors for a great month. Here is a summary of our November 2016 crew.

Author Description:
USA Today bestselling author Judith Arnold knew she wanted to be a writer by the time she was four. She loved making up stories (not exactly the same thing as lying) and enjoying the adventures of her fictional characters. With more than eight-five published novels to her name, she has been able to live her dream. Four of Judith's novels have received awards from RT Book Reviews Magazine (for Best Harlequin American Romance, Best Harlequin Superromance, Best Series Romance Novel and Best Contemporary Romance Novel) and she's a three-time finalist for Romance Writers of America's RITA Award. Her novel Love In Bloom's was named one of the best books of the year by Publishers Weekly. A New York native, Judith lives in New England.

Interview Excerpt

Next: Angel of the Morning is in draft form. The novels is the seventh in the Magic Jukebox series.

Social media buzz: Actually, I’m more a Facebook than a Twitter fan. I’ve got the two accounts linked so that my Facebook posts appear on Twitter. I love that social media make it possible for authors and readers to connect. During the years I wrote for traditional publishers, the publishers gradually cut back on the promotion they did for their authors and expected authors to do more of the promotion ourselves. We used to complain about that, but in retrospect, I admit that this was good preparation for my career as an independent author.

Personal appearances: Just a couple of weeks ago, I spoke at the Boston Book Festival, which was great fun. I don’t do much public speaking over the winter; living in New England, we never know when a blizzard is going to strike! However, I’m scheduled to speak to the Rhode Island Romance Writers in March and the New England Chapter of Romance Writers of America sometime in the spring (we’re still figuring out the date.) I’ll also participate in the NEC-RWA conference in April, both running a workshop and signing books. If other invitations come in, I’ll say yes if I can. Connecting with readers through social media is great, but meeting them in person is much more satisfying.

Great covers: I create most of my covers myself. I’ve hired an artist to design the covers for my Lainie Lovett mysteries, and she’s done a fabulous job of capturing my vision for those books. For the romances, I worked with a cover artist for a while. We originally came up with traditional “couples” covers, but then I decided I wanted a different look.

Author bundles: As far as I know, Heart Stealers was the first multi-author bundle to be independently published. When indie-publishing was still in its infancy, several friends and I were brainstorming about how to get our books in front of more readers. I’m pretty sure it was Patricia McLinn, one of the four authors in Heart Stealers, who came up with the idea of collecting a group of authors’ novels into one volume and selling it inexpensively.

Free books: I currently have three books which are more or less permanently free: Changes, the first book in the Magic Jukebox series, Father Found, the first book in the Daddy School series, and Still Kicking, the first book in the Lainie Lovett Mysteries series. Free books are an excellent way to introduce readers to a series.

Reader list: I send out a newsletter about once a month. I consider the people who sign up to receive my friends, and I don’t want to clog their email inboxes with lots of junk. So I don’t bombard them with newsletters, but send a newsletter only when I have news to share.

Publishing in foreign languages: The only books of mine that are published in foreign languages are those released by traditional publishers. I’ve looked into publishing translations of my indie books, but translators are expensive, and in some countries the laws require an author to share her copyright with the translator, which I’m hesitant to do. My indie books are distributed in English in many foreign countries, though.

Reviews are an important part of marketing our books, and authors welcome them. (Of course, we welcome the 5-star reviews a lot more than the 1-star reviews!) Many advertising venues will not run ads for books that haven’t received a minimum number of reviews. So getting reviews is important to me. I put a note in the back of most of my books, reminding readers that they can post a review of the book if they wish.

D. F. Bailey

Author Genre: Suspense, Thrillers & Mysteries

Website: D. F. Bailey - Suspense, Thrillers & Mysteries
Twitter: @D_F_Bailey
Facebook: Check Out Facebook

Post with Profile + Interview: HBS Author's Spotlight

Amazon Author Profile

Author Description:
D.F. Bailey's first novel, Fire Eyes, was a finalist for the W.H. Smith First Novel Award. A second novel, Healing the Dead, was translated into German as Todliche Ahnungen. This was followed by The Good Lie, another psychological thriller, now recorded as a talking book. A fourth novel, Exit from America, made its debut as an e-book in 2013. D.F. Bailey is currently working on a series of novels narrated from the point-of-view of a crime reporter in San Francisco.

Following his birth in Montreal, D.F. Bailey's family moved around North America from rural Ontario to New York City to McComb, Mississippi to Cape May, New Jersey. He finally "landed on his feet" on Vancouver Island -- where he lives next to the Salish Sea in the city of Victoria.

For twenty-two years D.F. Bailey worked at the University of Victoria where he taught creative writing and journalism and coordinated the Professional Writing Cooperative Education Program -- which he co-founded. From time to time he also freelanced as a business writer and journalist. In the fall of 2010 he left the university so that he could turn "his pre-occupation with writing into a full-blown obsession."

Interview Excerpt

Next: I’m currently working on the first draft of Death Shadow, the fourth book in the Will Finch series. I hope to have it completed and edited for release in 2017.

Social media: Almost exactly one year ago I began an experiment to see if Twitter could help broaden my reach. While I have about 14,000 followers on Twitter, it hasn’t translated into increased readership… Having given it a whirl, I concluded that Twitter doesn’t suit my personality.

Personal appearances: When my first novel, Fire Eyes, came out in 1987, books were promoted and sold with book launches, signings and reading tours. I did a number of those — and they were a lot of fun. But since the global re-engineering of book publishing and selling around 2010 that sort of activity has been transformed. For one thing, publishers can’t afford the costs for anyone other than their A-list writers. I’m now an indie author which means I write and publish my own work…

Great covers: I’m so happy to hear that because years ago I was pretty insecure about my design sense. I’m now preparing the cover for Death Shadow, the next book in my crime series. I select images from sites like Big Stock and Pixabay, then send them to my designer who lives in Cairo. I found him through a freelancer site called Guru.com. I give him the cover concept and colour ideas and together we run through about three or four drafts until the cover is perfect. Since we now have the brand and theme for the crime novel series, it gets easier as we go forward with every new book.

Book giveaways: As you know, I give away the first novel in my crime series, Bone Maker, for free (anyone can get a copy here: http://bit.ly/2aSJoXt). The idea is that if you like this book, then you can purchase the other novels in the series: Stone Eater and Lone Hunter. They’re a great deal and each costs less than a latté. Retailers call this kind of scheme a loss leader and overall it’s worked well for my books.

Reader list: Yes, and this gets back to my earlier point about email being more effective than Twitter. I have a list of about 1,800 people who subscribe to my VIP Club, which is my newsletter (to join the club, click the “subscribe” button on dfbailey.com). I also identify people who review my books and those who want ARCs (Advance Review Copies) of my new books when they’re about to come out. I’ll send these readers ARCs if they provide reviews upon publication. It’s a win-win and to my surprise, I’ve managed to get to know several readers quite well.

Barry Finlay

Author Genre: Fiction, Nonfiction

Post with Profile + Interview: HBS Author's Spotlight

Amazon Author Profile

Author Description:
Barry Finlay is the author of three award-winning books: the inspirational Kilimanjaro and Beyond, the mystery/thriller, The Vanishing Wife and the humorous travel memoir and bestseller, I Guess We Missed The Boat. He had an extensive career in financial management before retiring in 2004, after thirty two years with the Canadian federal government. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) who dabbles in the arts as he is also an award winning decorative wood carver. Since retiring, he has divided his time between being an author, working as a consultant on financial policy matters, travel, playing golf, climbing mountains, philanthropy and enjoying his three grandchildren.

Barry has always tried to stay active but working at a desk for so many years eventually catches up. A visit to the family doctor, along with a number of other converging events, encouraged him to take hold of his life and gave him the motivation to climb a mountain. The desire to pursue philanthropy was spawned while growing up on the family farm in Rapid City, Manitoba, Canada and was nurtured by the experience of meeting the African children who would directly benefit from his fundraising.

In 2013, Barry was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his philanthropic work in Tanzania.

On Becoming an Author:

Barry’s interest in becoming an author grew throughout his career while his skills were being honed by authoring countless financial policies. While Barry’s family always encouraged him to inject his dry sense of humour into his financial policies, it just didn’t seem appropriate somehow. Now that time is a little more readily available, he has taken the opportunity to put his skills and his sense of humour to good use. The experience of climbing Africa’s highest mountain at age 60 with one of his sons, and discovering the satisfaction of reaching a goal and giving others the opportunity to achieve theirs, was a book waiting to be written. Kilimanjaro and Beyond, written with his son Chris, is Barry’s first novel. He has now followed that up with two more books, the humorous travel memoir and Amazon Kindle Bestseller, I Guess We Missed The Boat and the mystery/thriller, The Vanishing Wife. His newest crime novel, A Perilous Question, was released May 15.

He publishes independently under his banner of Keep On Climbing. You can read more about his philanthropic work with Plan Canada and Wounded Warriors Canada at www.keeponclimbing.com.

In the meantime, please become familiar with his books and leave a comment. If you do read and enjoy one or all of his books, please take the time to leave a short review on some of the retail sites.

Barry lives with his wife, Evelyn, in Ottawa, Canada.

Interview Excerpt

Next: My new book is percolating and in the Outline stage. I can tell you that it will originate in Asia and revolve around cyber crime. Marcie Kane, who was introduced in The Vanishing Wife and continued in A Perilous Question, will once again be featured.

Social media: It has taken awhile to build a following and it is kind of an eclectic group. Because I have written non-fiction and fiction and do fundraising, I tweet about various things and have built the following that way. I’m focusing on my fiction writing now and tried to tweet about writing every Tuesday.

Personal appearances: Book stores, at least in Canada, have become much more amenable to bringing in indie authors and in highlighting our books. Craft shows at Christmas are a lucrative market as people are looking for gifts. I try to keep my event calendar up to date on my FB page at Barry Finlay – Author and my web site at www.barry-finlay.com.

Book cover: I provide the vision and the designer comes up with the design. I have a little focus group to run the cover by before final approval.

Writer support groups: [Besides the Crime Writers of Canada], I belong to the Authors Social Media Support Group (ASMSG) and the Indie Author Retweet Group (IARTG) as well as a number of groups on Facebook and LinkedIn. They are all helpful as authors can benefit from the experience of others. There is always something coming up that an author can apply to their own situation.

Free books: I never saw the value initially until I ran a few hours free through Genius Media for The Vanishing Wife. The results were beyond my wildest expectations and it translated into sales. It has to be done right and, in my opinion, a number of different sites, such as Ereader News Today, Freebooksy, Book Gorilla, etc. have to be used at once.

I do maintain a reader list. I started it by offering eight books by authors I liked plus a signed copy of one of my books in a giveaway. The books were nearly-new from a used book store. There are a number of sites that will advertise your giveaway. I ended up with about 1200 on my mailing list. Some dropped off as soon as the giveaway was over but after sending out emails about my upcoming book, I was able to add some back.

Great website: I try to keep it up to date, but it’s a challenge. Sometimes I don’t think I do it enough. I think the key is to focus on the most important things you have to say. Otherwise, it’s just overwhelming… Authors have to realize going in that if they want their book to be noticed, they are going to be spending a lot of time at the computer drawing attention to it. It has to be focused attention. A lot of time can be spent posting about the meal of the day but that doesn’t sell books…unless you are selling a cookbook.

Getting reviews: I have sought reviews from mainstream media, but it’s a challenge. I find the more books you write, the easier it becomes, but the ratio of reviews to books downloaded is pretty low. Offering books for free and getting more out there helps.

Interview Excerpt

Next: Witness is released 20th December, just in time for Christmas. It’s my first psychological thriller and I’m very excited about its release. Here’s a teaser: It’s been ten years since Rebecca’s testimony saw Solomon locked away. Enough time for the nightmares to recede, the nerves to relax; enough time to rebuild her life and put the past behind her.

Social media: I’m very pleased with my Twitter following, although it has taken several years and a lot of work to build. I believe a strong social media platform is very important for all authors, as long as it’s organically grown. I advise against buying followers because they are of no value at all. Most are bots and they certainly don’t have any interest in what you have to say. I follow readers, authors and book bloggers. I keep lists and check them regularly so I don’t miss important tweets.

Great covers: My publishers Bookouture have created some great covers which I’m very happy with. They take over full development so I don’t really have a hands on approach.

Audio books: I self-published my first book and took it upon myself to get an audio book produced. Most of my subsequent books have been produced on audio through my publishers. I love audio books, being a fan myself. Although sales are not in the same realm as ebooks, I do believe they are growing in popularity. I created mine on ACX.com for free by splitting the royalty with my narrator and I really enjoyed the process.

Reader list: I believe that all authors should treat their books as a business and a reader’s list is integral to promoting your work. I’m very grateful to my readers and reviewers and as well as sending out updates, I conduct free prize draws as a thank you for their loyalty

Great blog: I’m glad you like my site, I’ve recently had it redesigned to give it that dark, gritty feel. I love blogging. I write regular pieces on writing and strive to inspire others to keep going.

Living in England: My biggest audience is in the US and I have a great following in the UK and my home country of Ireland too. I love hearing from readers, and it’s a great feeling when I hear from readers from across the globe. Social media is great for this and I use Twitter in particular to chat to readers online. I have easy access to London by train, which is very convenient for meetings and networking.

Getting reviews: When I self-published my first book I found it very difficult to get reviews, but slowly built a network of readers online through social media. It’s never been a better time to self-promote, given the amount of book clubs on Facebook and other online sites.

Author Description:
My dog, Jess and I hike in fabulous woods every day, rain or shine, sleet or snow. Having an adventurous nature, I learned to fly small Cessnas in NJ, hang-glide in New Zealand, kayak in Pennsylvania, ski in New York, scuba dive with great white sharks in Australia, dig up dinosaur bones in Montana, sky dive in Indiana, and raft a class four river in Tasmania. I'm an avid gardener, amateur photographer, and dabbler in watercolors and graphic arts. Yet through my entire life, my first love has and always will be writing novels. I love to create interesting characters, set them loose, and scribe what happens.

Interview Excerpt

Next: The second book of the Sky Ryder’s series will come out Dec 30th 2016. In this one, Alisha gets promoted due to her amazing flying skills, but her renegade spirit starts bumping heads with those in charge.

Then to celebrate Valentine’s day, I have a very strange, but delightful book coming out on Feb 6th 2017, called Luck Be An Angel.

Social media: I love my tweeters. I actually keep a list of who retweets my book tweets so I can send them pics of puppies and kittens in appreciation. I ignore the peeps wanting to sell me tweeters or companies who want to save me time by allowing them to take over my tweet account. Yes, it takes hours of my time to schedule tweets and retweet those who have taken the time to help me. But it’s worth it.

Great covers: Well, you just made my day. I created all my covers with the exception of the first three books in the ‘A Right To Love’ series. Those were designed by the talented Danielle Fine. I loved them, but knowing my fast-paced plans to publish, my budget, and my love to be creative, I decided to make my own covers.

Frre books: When I first went indie, I gave my first book, Worst Week Ever away for free. I gave away over twenty thousand copies of the book in less than a week. But the amount of sales that flowed to the other books disappointed me and I found I made more money selling my new releases at full price and offering only the first in the series for 99 cents. As more and more authors are trying to be noticed with ‘free’ books, it’s value diminishes. But that is also true with 99 cent books as well. The truth is getting the attention of a reader is harder than ever as more and more authors join the ranks. But I honestly don’t think giving away your book is the best path to success.

Great blog: Actually, I have two blogs. My main blo:: http://www.lizaoconnor.com/
and my Sci-Fi Blog: https://multiuniversesoflizao.blogspot.com/.
I had originally planned to create a Victorian blog as well, but upon realizing the amount of time it takes to nurture and grow a blog, I changed my mind and meshed the Victorian blogs into my Liza blog. However, I felt sci-fi needed its own blog since its readers seemed to be different than those who read Victorian or Contemporary.

Blogs do take a lot of time but I wanted an outlet to help fellow authors get the word out on their books, and I like to write funny/sarcastic blogs when I have a moment. I keep my bloggers for three days, and stagger the start day between the two blogs so I won’t have to put up two blogs in a single day. I also create 8 promotional tweets for my guests which usually run for three days as well. It takes about an hour of my time to create the tweets and another hour to schedule all the tweets for the next day. But I’m a big believer in the concept of pay it forward. Then when I need help, my peeps are there for me.

Getting reviews: Ah reviews…. They are vitally important, but so hard to get. In total, I only have 375 reviews (over 27 books). Most of them 4 & 5s. I always hope for at least ten reviews on book one of a series because that is minimally what I will need to promote the book for 99 cents to get new readers and encourage them to read the other books in the series. Several of the promo sites won’t accept you without ten reviews.

Published under several genres: I didn’t expect great crossover from writers from my many genres but recently a reader sent me a Facebook message saying she was a sci-fi reader, but she just read the first book of my Victorian Sleuth series, Xavier & Vic and loved it. Soon after the other seven books in the X&V series were purchased. I was so thrilled…

I do write differently when in the various genres, so to your question about hopping about. Yes, I do believe it helps keeps the stories fresh for me. Especially genres that are far apart from one another, such as: sci-fi rom and a Victorian sleuth series. Still, to keep me on the straight, I try to reread the prior book in the series so I can fall back into the groove and move forward seamlessly.

Author Description:
Amazon Best Selling erotica author, Anita Philmar enjoys writing stories that push the limit and take her readers to new exciting places.

In a house full of men, she has learned the inner working of both boy's and men's minds which has enriched her stories.

Having grown up in Texas. she's a big fan of cowboys. She couldn't help but write westerns set in her home state. Hot, historical, or erotic fantasies, she lights up the pages with sizzling sex scenes.

Interview Excerpt

Next: The Warrior in Me was a fun book to write. Up next on the drawing board is A Cowboy’s Passion, which is part of the Cowboys of Naked Bluff, Texas. This book is a continuation of Cowboy’s Pleasure and The Country Doctor’s Bride.

Social media buzz: I have been on social media for years and believe it has fueled my current success. I have met some great followers and have had a chance to share my work with the world. I build my following my following people who like the same authors that I enjoy reading. When launching a book now, I make sure I included my twitter account and facebook friends in my marketing strategy. Luckily, I have great support from both.

Personal appearances: I don’t have any book signings, speaking or personal appearances scheduled in the near future. Most of my interviews are like this one, which happens online. If I plan an event, I normally share that information on my blog or in my newsletter.

Great covers: I am very lucky that I have a cover artist that lets me share in the creative process. Normally, I give her an idea and then I will search for pictures that I like. She puts it together and creates the final product. I haven’t asked readers opinions on my covers, but I have considered doing this in the future.

Short stories: I enjoy writing short. They are quick and help my sales numbers because I can price them lower. New readers can read my books without having to invest a great deal to discover my style. I have to say I do it because I enjoy writing short stories and to give readers a sample of my work.

Author bundles: I enjoy being in a box set. Mainly, I like working with other authors on a common goal. This has helped my sales. In that, it exposes me to new readers and spreads the cost of promotion over the group, giving each of us more exposure. I haven’t been the one to put a box set together. Luckily, I have been associated with other authors that have invited me to be in the group, which makes my part in the group much easier.

Free books: I had my book “Hot Prairie Nights” free on all outlets for four years. This exposed me to some readers. This year, I pulled it from all the sites and now uses it to find people who want to be a part of my newsletter group. I do Amazon giveaways, and I’m currently running a giveaway to celebrate the release of The Warrior in Me on my blog dated 11/11/2016. I find this again gains new readers and helps say thank you to your followers. There are some obstacles in that you need to make sure you know what you're doing and state your terms and conditions.

Support groups: Marketing for Romance Writers is a great group, but I have a group that I belong to which is called Authors Helping Authors. It is where I brainstorm with other authors about the upcoming author exchange that is hosted http://tinagayle.blogspot.com/p/authors-helping-authors-fall-exchange.html.

Time: Lately, I have spent a lot of time marketing for The Warrior in Me. I try my best to balance my day and spend a few hours doing each task. Some days, I might spend more time on updating my blog and the next day on marketing. However, I do try to write a little each day. Some days, I get more done than others.

Interview Excerpt

Next: I have several projects in the works. For my Kindle Worlds series, I have two more novellas planned, following Keiki the Rottweiler puppy and her trainer Lia. The next one is TRAINED TO SERVE, and delves more deeply into Keiki's police dog training as she grows up into her future role.

Meanwhile, I'm finishing up the audiobook version of my nonfiction pet care book, NEW CHOICES IN NATURAL HEALING FOR DOGS AND CATS. This has always been a favorite of mine, and so I brought it back into print, released it on Kindle and now in audio. I plan to include some of the techniques in my Keiki novella, with her trainer Lia being an advocate of natural healing.

Social media: I love social networking and have to put myself on a twitter and facebook "diet" to get any real work done! I tell myself that the interaction IS part of my work (and it is...) but it can be very easy to let it take over. My work is more about relationships (with pet lovers, and their relationship with their dogs and cats) rather than just writing books or blog posts or articles or whatever. My calling is to provide good, solid information that empowers and inspires people who love their animal companions.

Personal appearances: I'm working on two appearances right now, hopefully one in my local community and another when I visit my parents over the holidays. I grew up in Northern Indiana, and just learned there is interest in my giving a talk at the Bristol Public Library in December. Details are still being worked out but folks can check on my "appearance" page over at my www.SHOJAI.com website. Hope to see you there!

Audio books: There are many reader/listeners who actually prefer the audio versions. They tell me they spend a lot of time commuting for work, or there are others (artists, for example) who enjoy listening while they create. I love that notion! Audio sales has become a significant portion of my income, but it's not one individual title. I currently have five audio titles available, with more in the works, and it's the combined sales that make the difference.

Novellas: Yes, I wrote BORN TO LOVE after Toby Neal invited me to contribute to her Lei Crime Kindle World. Her character Lei is a detective with a police dog Keiki, so I decided to write the "backstory" of the Rottweiler, as a puppy. It's received some great reviews and was a lot of fun! Because it's one of many novellas in Toby's world, it's not gained a lot of attention...yet...but is being cross-promoted in my own pet-centric thrillers. My own audience has picked it up and enjoyed the story, and most of the reviewers beg for more Keiki stories, too. This was my first novella -- I tend to write long -- so it was a challenge to limit the number of characters and plot points.

Writer support groups: [Besides the International Thriller Writers], I'm a founder of the Cat Writers' Association, Inc (www.catwriters.com) , a longtime member of Dog Writers of America (www.DWAA.com) , and a past president and Honorary Lifetime Member of Oklahoma Writers' Federation, Inc. All these organizations have had a "paw" in my development as a writer.

Free books: I've always given away free books, partly because the nonfiction is designed to be info-tainment to help pet lovers. Pet lovers talk to other pet lovers, so one person who adores a book (advice? or a fiction work?) talks about it to others. In fact, I include a lot of the nonfiction expertise in my fiction, sort of "giving away" free pet care consulting advice along with the thrill rides.

Reader list: Oh yes indeed! I always have a newsletter sign up list at appearances such as lectures and book signings or readings. I also have newsletter sign up forms on my blog here, and also on my website here: http://shojai.com/newsletter/

Fiction and informative non-fiction books: I use different parts of my brain for nonfiction than I do for fiction. Having written nonfiction for so long, that's almost like breathing to me--one year I wrote 4 books, 3 at the same time, juggling the interviews with experts via phone and internet all at the same time. That makes you really pay attention to the details and to stay organized so you know why Dr. XYZ calls you back and don't ask him questions meant of for Dr. ABC! (It can get embarrassing otherwise.) I can multi-task easily while writing nonfiction.

Interview Excerpt

Next: Mr. Darcy Loves Elizabeth Bennet is coming in October. 4 stories for the price of 1! Join authors Elizabeth Ann West, Barbara Silkstone, Kristi Rose, and April Floyd as we each share an exclusive short novella reimagining our dear couple falling in love!

Social media: I use FB to communicate with my fans. I have a number of pages besides my personal page with over 4K friends, my author page, Mister Darcy series, Wendy Darlin Tomb Raider, Second Act Cafe, and more. I don't use twitter very often as my time allows for only so many outlets.

Great covers: I mostly design my own covers, seeking some feedback from fellow authors in my network.

Audio books: Almost all my books are in audio format. I love hearing my characters speak the words I have crafted for them. Since I write comedy, finding a narrator with good comedic timing is critical to me. I think I have about twenty novels in audio. I lose count. :)

Author bundles: Multi-author bundles are put together for the short run. Usually only 6 months. It is a wonderful way to introduce your work to new readers. Some of my own box sets (containing all the books in a series) remain in semi-permanent state. I have only one multi-author bundle in existence right now. It is titled Mr. Darcy Loves Elizabeth Bennet http://amzn.to/2djuHgq

Bundling a series of novels: Bundles are just another way of making it easy for readers to follow your books in order. Author Description:
My stories overflow with romance, suspense, a hint of humor sometimes and, of course, a few Kleenex moments. After all, what would a great story be without an emotional event setting the stage? All of my novels are sensual, but not erotic, gripping but not graphic and will make you cry, laugh, love, and hope.

Although some of my titles clearly include supernatural or ghostly beings, my paranormal stories dance on the edge of make believe, in a genre referred to as magical realism. My hope is that as you read my stories, you'll wonder, "Hmmm...what if?"

As most authors, I blame my leap into a full-time career as a professional writer on my love of reading. Reading has always been an escape for me. When life was rough as a child, I could always disappear into a book. But I found something else too... I discovered that writing out my thoughts was healing. Not only could I create hope for my protagonists, but I could do away with the antagonists--legally.

When I penned my first novel, 'She Belongs to Me', I allowed only my cousin and best friend to read it. They are the reason I write. They pushed me to publish, as they felt my stories would give others who've experienced tragedies hope. So now, even though I still write for me, I mainly write for my readers who continually encourage me that my words touched their soul.

Most of my novels share some of my favorite hobbies, mostly, anything to do with the great outdoors. I rarely spend my days off at a movie theater or the mall. In fact, I hate shopping, and my hubby would prefer to do anything other than take me to a movie that I'd already read the book. :) Also, we both would rather read a book on the beach--or a coffee shop if it's raining--and if the weather is really nice, we love to go kayaking and hiking.
