The Backseat Mystery

Cottonwood Springs Cozy Mystery Series Book 25

Author: Dianne Harman

AVAILABLE

A dead man is found in the backseat of his own car.
A medical emergency?
Or something far more sinister? Like murder?
And he was a recovering addict. Could he have overdosed on drugs?

That’s what Brigid and Sheriff Davis need to find out when they begin to assess the situation. Even though the dead man, Frankie, had been successful at fighting his addiction, when it comes to an ex-addict’s death, there seems to be a built-in bias that they’ve slipped, and their death was a result of that slip. As they work on the case, Brigid has to fight her own bias of thinking that way.

But as they begin to talk to the people Frankie knew, like his ex-wife, a picture evolves of an ex-addict doing everything he could possibly do to stay clean. He desperately wants to reconcile with his wife, and he knows the reason she left him was because of his drug abuse, which is all the more reason for him to stay clean.

Did someone hate Frankie enough to murder him and then put him in the backseat of his car? When the coroner’s report comes back that Frankie died of an overdose, it seems like a pretty open and shut case. But why would someone overdose in the backseat of their own car that was parked next to a gas station?

None of it makes sense, at least not to Brigid and Sheriff Davis, and so they continue to try and find out exactly what happened in the time period right before Frankie’s death.

And when they do discover the truth, it’s a very good thing that Brigid’s big Newfoundland dog and her husband decide to help!

And if they had the flower, it would make them rich beyond their wildest dreams.
But that’s not the only reason people want to kill her.
If you’re one of them, you’ll probably have to stand in line and take a number.

When Dani’s contacted by Lady Ellen Pemberton to cater a dinner the night before the Dahlia Show she’s hosting in the village of Tintagal in North Cornwall, England, she’s completely put off by the woman’s imperious attitude. Dani finally agrees to do it only because her young niece, Anna, is completely enthralled by the legend of King Arthur, and the dinner is taking place very near King Arthur’s castle.

When she and Arthur, her sous-chef, who also owns an international private investigation firm, arrive in the small village where the dinner is to held, she finds out the woman is far worse than she’d imagined. Murder on the Rooftop - Northwest Cozy Mystery Series
A police fundraiser.
An argument.
A note saying “Come to the rooftop.”
A fatal fall from the roof.
Was it suicide or murder?

A man is arrested for murder within minutes of the victim falling to his death from the rooftop of a hotel where a police fundraiser is being held. The arrest is based solely on earlier harsh words between two men, and it doesn’t add up. At least not to Jake and Al, private investigators hired to look into it by a wealthy friend of the accused.

The banquet room was full of police. After all, it was a police fundraiser, but Al and Jake think Gio La Serta’s arrest was a little too sudden and a little too convenient. Then strange things begin to happen to them. Black cars start following them, Jake is handed a thumb drive while on a ferry by a person who disappears, and the gas tank cover on Jake’s truck has obviously been tampered with.

It becomes obvious someone doesn’t want them to discover the truth about Niles Balderelli’s murder, and now Al and Jake have gone from being hunters to being the prey. But are they beginning to discover the truth a little too late?

Christmas at Oakley Ranch

An Oakley Ranch Cozy Mystery Short Story

Author: James Moushon

AVAILABLE
Amazon
Kindle Unlimited

Welcome to Oakley Ranch: An Active Adult Community just outside of Phoenix, Arizona.

Christmas is a big deal at Oakley Ranch. A Parade. A Dinner and Party. Great Music. A present exchange. Just lots of fun.

That all went south when one of the residents is found died in her kitchen. The police say it’s murder. Poison cookies. Who did this is a mystery.

Detective Ferguson and Officer Rizzo are in the park looking for leads. Resident Sarah Sandberg and her neighbor, Mary, go in their own direction to help solve the murder.

Then Sarah’s dog, Jethro does it again. He uncovers the evidence that solves the crime.

Excerpt from Christmas at Oakley Ranch

Sarah and Mary were sitting on Sarah’s patio like they did every morning. Almost all they talked about were the other residents at Oakley Ranch. They enjoyed that. It was a good way to start the day.

The Christmas season was here and the largest party of the year for the park was coming up in a couple of days. That day would start with a cart parade through the park and end with a great dinner and music.

Yesterday the two ladies spent most of the day helping decorate the social hall. It seemed like everyone in the park pitched in to make the holiday season a merry one.

Last night they had an HOA board meeting to make final preparations for the party. Many had done a lot of these Christmas parties and so things were second nature. Assigning small tasks to the newbies or the snowbirds was almost as fun as the upcoming party.

“I think things went well last night. We had some good suggestions,” Mary said, taking a drink of coffee.

“And a few not-so-good ones,” Sarah said chuckling.

Sarah was sitting across the patio table from Mary, petting her dog Jethro and looking down at the table in deep thought.

“I liked it when Barbara assigned the snowbird with the bright orange hair that lives down the way the job of taking care of the napkins,” Mary added.

Mary hesitated. “Are you okay, Sarah? You look distracted.”

“I was just thinking about the meeting.”

“I think we are all set,” Mary concluded…

“What’s bothering you, Sarah?” Mary asked again.

“Lois wasn’t at the meeting last night. That’s not like her.”

“Maybe she’s not feeling well?” Mary returned.

“I called a couple of times, and she didn’t pick up.”
