The FBI believes there is US troop information being leaked to rebels in Syria. After a special meeting in San Francisco, Jonathon Stone and Dale Oak, who is already undercover in Detroit, are assigned the operation.

The FBI is asking for D.O.T.’s help because of their problems dealing with sanctuary city policies in the area. As Stone narrows it down to one suspect, the operation unexpectedly expands.

Excerpt from Operation Raging Bill

San Francisco in September. What a great time of the year. I had just landed at San Francisco International and was headed downtown to the CIA headquarters. I had been summoned by my boss, Russ Evans, for a top-secret meeting in our West Coast main office. I had the cab window down enjoying the fresh air and marine layer sifting through the backseat.

This was going to work out great. I would be early enough to talk to several of the agents who had worked with me in Long Beach. That seemed like years ago. The CIA D.O.T. division had an undercover operation set up there. We had a full-blown magazine business and I was one of the reporters. Actually, I was in charge. The cover gave me the ability to ask questions freely without showing a badge. Our domestic division was designed to avoid warrants and other legal hassles in the US.

Anyway, there I was passing through security and up to the eighth floor. I missed the group and the constant action but the Long Beach area had its perks too. Right upfront, I saw Debbie Rico, the greatest gatekeeper I ever worked with. She saw me get off the elevator and was around her desk waiting for me. I opened the glass door and she rushed toward me. We hugged each other for at least a minute which ended with a great big smooch on the cheek. She backed away and said, “Excuse me, sir. Do you have an appointment?”

We both laughed. Other people coming into work were staring at us. They had never seen this side of her, I was sure. I kept looking at faces for someone I knew. It had been over a year since I was here and the staff had sure changed. The phone was ringing. Debbie frowned. “Back to work. They are down the hall to the right. I think Wiley and Dale are already in the conference room.”

“I guess they have free donuts. I’ll try to touch bases later but I don’t know how long I’ll be here,” I said.

“I understand.”

This place hadn’t changed much. I walked down the hall until I saw Wiley, our tech guy, in one of the smaller conference rooms. He was eating a big chocolate donut. He nodded. He was my go-to guy for information and research.

The small room told me a lot about the meeting. This was going to be a private, secure one. Over in the corner was Agent Dale Oak with his back turned, talking on the phone. Dale and I had worked a case in Vegas recently. He was our undercover Muslim agent. Actually, he was from Iowa but he had spent two years in Gitmo getting to know the guys and their routines.

“What’s going on Wiley?”

“I really don’t know much. There are a bunch of FBI agents in with Russ.”

Dale hung up his call, turned around, displaying a full beard and walked toward me with his hand extended. He was a large man with huge hands and muscles all over the place.

“Good to see you, Jon. You’re still in Long Beach, correct?”

“Oh, yeah. How about you?”

“They got me in Michigan, undercover.”

Well, that explained the beard. But it didn’t give me a clue why they brought him all the way out here. The CIA makes some strange moves. Especially, my division. I could see Russ and a group leaving his office through the conference room windows. I would soon find out what was going on. Russ walked into the room and headed to the front.

Russ Evans was always in charge. He and I went back a long way. He was my boss in Europe when I first started with the CIA.

“Please take a seat, gentlemen,” Russ said.

I counted four from the CIA and four from the FBI. Russ started. He quickly introduced us to the FBI agents, not giving much information. Then he started in on the FBI.

“First, I want to introduce Special Agent, Bob Bacon. He’s from the FBI DC office. He’ll discuss an op that they are working on. We’ll be involved because of the incident a couple of months ago where two CIA agents were killed near Raqqa in Syria. For those of you that don’t know the details, they were with a patrol looking for an ISIS supply convoy. There were two US Army soldiers killed and five NATO reps. It appears they were led into an ambush of some sort. No one knew their mission except the Army command staff in DC. The FBI determined there had to be a leak somewhere. Anyway, here’s Agent Bacon. He’ll explain more about it.”

Bacon stood and walked to the front as Russ sat down next to Wiley. He was a large blond man with a Marine haircut. After quickly introducing the other FBI agents, he started in on the mission details.

“A month after the incident the CIA came to us. They had determined that the leak must have come from someone in the states. Specifically, the Pentagon. The details of the mission were tightly held.”
