Priest. Lover. Statesman.

From the author of the best-selling “Legendary Women of World History” series ...

Cardinal Armand-Jean du Plessis, duc de Richelieu is one of the most famous -- or infamous politicians of all time. Made a villain in the popular Dumas novel, "The Three Musketeers," the real man was a dedicated public servant loyal to king and country. A man of logic and reason, he transformed how we think about nations and nationality. He secularized wars between countries, patronized the arts for the sake of the public good, founded the first newspaper in France, and created France as the modern country we know today.

Excerpt from His Red Eminence, Armand-Jean du Plessis de Richelieu

Twenty minutes later Cardinal Richelieu and Anne stepped out of the cardinal’s carriage. Walking slowly but deliberately, they reached the council chamber and bowed deeply before the king. “We are here as requested, Your Majesty,” replied Richelieu.

The king motioned for both to rise before turning to Anne, “Is he well enough yet?”

“No,” answered Anne, “but we obey Your Majesty’s commands. I beg your leave to stay with him and serve him.”

“Granted,” acknowledged King Louis. “Now for the reason for your summons. Yesterday Charles duc de la Vieuville was arrested on charges of corruption and abuse of his powers as my interim First Minister. Upon recommendation of the queen mother augmented by many years of loyal service I am hereby appointing you, Armand-Jean du Plessis, Cardinal Richelieu as my First Minister.” Receiving it from a nearby servant, King Louis placed the four-inch-wide blue riband holding the Cross of the Holy Spirit around the cardinal’s neck, “May you fulfil your duties with more integrity and competence than your predecessor.”

Cardinal Richelieu’s knees buckled and he fell almost to the ground, “I am humbled by Your Majesty’s confidence in my abilities. Words cannot convey my gratitude. God save Your Majesty and forever make you strong and wise!”

“I will be all the stronger and wiser when my first minister is well again and can return to work. Go now back to your bed and return to your duties as soon as Mademoiselle Rochefeuille deems you able. You are no good to me half-dead from illness, Armand, but I wanted this done and done quickly lest some other misfortune strike beforehand.” King Louis motioned for one of his musketeers to step forward, “Jean-Armand du Peyrer, will you see to the safe return of the cardinal and his aide to their home and protect His Eminence until he returns to his duties?”

Du Peyrer bowed, “I would be honoured. Thank you, Your Majesty for this duty.” Rising, the cardinal, du Peyrer, and Anne prepared to leave.

Louis intercepted Anne, “Anne, one moment please.”

“Yes, Your Majesty?”

“You are now charged with the health of the second most important man in France. If there is anything at all you need, even the advice and assistance of my personal physician, you are commanded to inform me. If the cardinal should die of this or any other illness while you are in charge of his health, be assured you will not long survive yourself. This is now no longer a matter of convenience or inconvenience. Am I clear?”

“Yes, Your Majesty,” affirmed Anne as she waited for the king to release her from his presence. With a nod from the king she hastened to join Armand. Stepping into the carriage, she laid her head on his shoulder.

Armand touched her face, “What is it, Anne?”

“The king just threatened me.”

Armand held her close as the carriage lurched forward, “Do not be afraid. You have me as certainly as I have you. Whatever comes of my tenure as First Minister of France, I will always do what I can to shelter you and keep you from harm.”

“Merci, Mon Eminence.”

“Merci ma dame.”

Renaissance Queens - The Legendary Women of World History

Now at last three Legendary Women of World History biographies in a single boxed set volume.

Joined together by more than just blood, French Princess Catherine de Valois (queen consort to King Henry V of England) and her descendants Queen Elizabeth Tudor of England and Queen Mary Stuart of Scotland dramatically changed the world as we know it, daring to do the extraordinary and risking everything in a time when women held few legal rights as individuals.

Begin the journey with “Catherine de Valois.” As King Henry V of England invades France in his bloodthirsty war of conquest and terror, Princess Catherine is forced by her father’s paranoid schizophrenia and a civil war at home with the Burgundians into marriage with one man she hates most. Yet hope is not lost for the reluctant queen of England as Owain Ap Tudor, son of a Welsh freedom fighter, earns a key position in the royal household thanks to his valour on the field of Agincourt. Their meeting changed the world forever in this fascinating story of love, loss, and war.

Next, discover the reign of Queen Mary Stuart in “Mary Queen of the Scots.” Most people focus on how Queen Mary died, but in truth Mary was the glittering “people’s princess” of the 16th century whose mark on Scottish culture and Edinburgh in particular shines brightly to this day. Contending with the violent Scottish reformation (literally conducted at the point of swords), Queen Mary’s beauty, compassion, and glittering court won the hearts and minds of the common people in defiance of the rich and powerful exploiting the poor. Meet the real Queen Mary and celebrate her life!

Finally, go behind the curtain of Queen Elizabeth Tudor in “Queen Elizabeth Tudor: Journey to Gloriana.” Told through the lens of her relationship with Robert Dudley you will go beyond the glamour of her court to meet the bright, sensitive, and passionate woman she really was.

Each book in this boxed set includes period music, timelines, and comprehensive bibliographies so you can keep learning.

But how did this happen and why is the late Elizabethan era the "Golden Age?"

In this beautiful creative non-fiction biography you'll meet Elizabeth as you have never met her before.

Whether you are a fan of the Tudor dynasty or this is your first time exploring English history, you will gain valuable insights into the mind of perhaps the most legendary woman in world history as told through the eyes of her famous -- or infamous -- relationship with Robert Dudley.

Mary Queen of the Scots - The Legendary Women of World History Book 3

Queen Mary Stuart was one of the most beloved and controversial women in Scottish history. The granddaughter of King James IV and his wife Margaret Tudor, Queen Mary's status as heiress-apparent to the English throne paired with the violence of the Scottish Reformation set the stage for one of the most dramatic and poorly understood lives of the 16th century.

Mary Queen of the Scots tells Mary's true story, focusing primarily on her reign as queen of Scotland, celebrating her life more than her death, and showing us all why she was truly a woman ahead of her time.

A Legendary Women of World History creative non-fiction biography. Includes four period songs.
