Whipping open the door to their suite, Tori snatched the bottle of wine from the concierge who brought it to the room special delivery. “Thank you so much.” She hugged the bottled like it was twenty-five ounces of deliverance. At the man’s raised eyebrows she lowered it to her side.

“Sometimes a girl needs a glass of wine and a bubble bath.”

“Ma’am, just so you know,” he motioned to the area behind the sofa, “the bar is fully-stocked with liquor, wine, soda and sparkling water.”

“I’m well aware.” It took effort to be good-natured when you weren’t feeling it. Her mouth tipped into a smile.

“My apologies.”

“No. No. It’s fine.” Tori made him flinch when she touched his arm. “I wanted to surprise Mr. Garrison with a special bottle.” Lucy had pointed out on more than one occasion that when she lied her left eye twitched. Right now the sucker was jerking so hard it felt like her eyeball could pop out. She shoved a crumpled wad of bills in the concierge’s hand. “For your trouble.”

His eyes lit up but he remained professional and didn’t gush over the gratuity. “It was no trouble.” With a polite bow, he backed away from the door. “Thank you. Enjoy your evening.”

Tori’s gaze slipped over her shoulder to locate Jake. He was sitting in a recliner with his legs propped up and ankles crossed, watching the Rangers play the Royals. He appeared oblivious to anything but the game. The elegant suite was spacious but it would’ve been difficult for him not to hear the knock on the door or the conversation with the concierge, which meant he was hell-bent on ignoring her. If she stripped naked and did an arabesque in front of the TV would he pay attention or lean to look around her? With the rift growing wider by the minute she knew exactly which one he’d do. She was tempted to conk him on the head with the wine bottle on the way to her room but she also wanted to patch things up with a kiss.

For the briefest of moments he swept his attention in her direction only to sweep it away again.

She tightened her hand around the neck of the bottle. Conking him on the head had real merit. When she walked behind his chair she did an arabesque for practice.
