Saute, simmer, and flambĂ©…

Jill Adgate wants three things from life: a successful catering business, the devoted love of an exceptional man, and a family. What she has is no job, a mounting pile of bills, and her outspoken best friend—who sets her up on a blind date with the man who inadvertently ruined Jill’s life.

Chet Castle is a prosperous businessman who has everything, except the ability to trust. Burned by a money-hungry fiancée, he refuses to get involved with any relationship that has a shelf life longer than a head of lettuce.

Intrigued by her ambition—and determined to get her in bed—Chet offers Jill the chance of a lifetime: Work for him for the next eight weeks as his live-in chef and he’ll help her get her catering business off the ground. When sparks fly in the kitchen, Jill realizes what’s cooking with her commitment-phobic employer is a recipe for disaster…but it’s just too tasty to not take a bite.

The Excerpt

Her body hummed as his smile wavered. Although he wore sunglasses, she’d bet her last dollar his gaze swept across her chest, lingering on the betrayal of her pert nipples pushing against the fabric of her suit.

Until this moment, shyness had never been a trait she possessed. Air stalled in her lungs, her palms grew sweaty, and she itched to cover herself with a towel. Even though her replica vintage swimsuit hid more than most sets of women’s underwear, she felt too exposed. She turned to the side slightly and folded her legs up. Not that it helped, but it made her feel a bit less exposed. Chet slid his feet from his sandals, brushing a hand through his hair. The heat from the sun wasn’t the only thing scorching her skin. She trickled several droplets of water over her arms, but she couldn’t drag her focus from his toned flesh.

Jill soaked in his ripped abs and the obvious package of goodies covered by his brown swimsuit—the same sexy brown as his hair. Damn, did a man have a right to fill out a pair of swimming trunks like that? Flecks of hair, just enough to give him a manly appeal, covered the etched muscles of his long, tan legs. She licked her lips, hoping she could still speak.

“Do you want some privacy?” Yes, say yes. She needed an excuse to make an escape without coming off like someone desperate to be making an exit.

* * * * *

Hell no, he didn’t want privacy. Through the shield of his sunglasses, he inspected her body from the tips of her pink-painted toenails to the top of her brightly flowered swimming cap. Did people still actually wear those things?

“No, you look comfortable. Stay and enjoy the day.”

“Oh…are you sure?”

“Sure.”

Amazed at his own ability to talk without his tongue hitting the cement, Chet turned to throw his towel and sunglasses on a nearby lounge chair. Damn.

The red and white polka-dot halter-style suit featured a tight bodice, but her slender hips and shapely thighs hiding beneath a matching skirt grabbed his attention until all oxygen left his blood. Even showing less skin than the average girl on the beach, she far exceeded sexy and alluring.

Get a grip, Castle. She’s off limits, no matter how delectable. He turned and stepped onto the diving board. He bounced along the surface as he made his way over the water. When he looked at Jill’s bathing cap covering her head, he held back his grin. The neon rubber flowers reminded him of something his grandmother would’ve worn, but there the similarity ended. Everything beneath that cap was far from making him think of Grandma.

SHOWCASE Questions and Answers with the Author

What do you have on the drawing board next?

Hi James! Thank you so much for having me back on your wonderful blog.

I always have lots of pans in the fire and tend to jump around according to the day and my mood. I’m currently working on three category romances and I have one that is completed that I’m considering self-publishing. I’ve been reading up on self-publishing and would love to give it a try. I am doing a little tweaking on this story and hope to hire an editor within the next couple of months. Fingers crossed.

Can you tell us the timeline for its release and give us a little tease?

If all goes well I hope to have the self-published book out by the end of 2013 or the very beginning of 2014. I also have another book under consideration with my publishing that is a very sexy romance that takes place between two rival high end realtors. It’s a fun story. The other stories I’m working on are still in the very beginning stages and I’m also considering writing a story for the New Adult genre. I think it’d be fun to try something new, and after I do a little more research I hope to plot out a story. Lots going on and all very exciting. I just never seem to have enough hours in the day J.

You have a good following of twitter. How important have your social media relationships been? Do you see a carry over to your writing success?

I’ve made some wonderful friends on Twitter, as well as Goodreads and Facebook.

The wonderful thing about all the social media sites is that everyone is supportive of one another—authors and readers alike—and I know without their encouragement and retweets and shares I wouldn’t have been able to get word of my books out there to everyone. I’m definitely thankful that I’m an author in a time where there are so many options for writers to share their work.

Do you do book signing, interviews, speaking and personal appearances? If so, when and where is the next place where your readers can see you? Where can they keep up with your personal contacts online?

At the moment I haven’t done any book signings or personal appearances, but I hope to work on that this coming year. It’s all coming along with baby steps. I’m an avid blogger and love to have authors on my personal blog as well as appear on others. To keep up on where I am and what I’m doing—and to have a little fun—please feel free to like my Facebook page this is first place I’ll post an appearance J. Hope to see you there!

You have great covers. How does your book cover creation process work? Do you hand over the basic theme or do you have more of a hands-on approach? Do you get your readers involved in its development?

I wish I had more to do with my covers than I have. I’m anxiously awaiting the cover for Bachelor’s Special and am sure I’ll love it because Entangled releases some amazing ones J As for Two-Timing the Boss and Some Like it in Handcuffs, both covers were provided by my publisher, The Wild Rose Press. As an author there they have you fill out a cover art form with things you’d like to see on your cover as well as things you’d like left off. They do take that into consideration when the cover artist is developing your cover. So it’s always a nail biting moment when you get that email with your cover art attached.

Have you created a book trailer for any of your books to promote them online?

I haven’t yet, but would like to give it a try in the future. The reason I haven’t is because I’d like to attempt making one on my own and at the moment time issues haven’t allowed me to do that.

What kinds of writer support groups do you belong too? Do they help with the writing, marketing and the publishing process?

I belong to a several groups on Facebook that allow authors to post excerpts and buy links to their books, as well as promote a new release or when they appear on a blog. I also have a wonderful one on one critique partner, a small critique group, and some wonderful yahoo groups who support each other with advice and more. Writers are a very supportive and giving group.

Between your book writing, blogging, marketing and the Buy The Book Tour and all the other things that can get in your way, how do you manage your time? Do you have a set schedule or do your sort of play it by ear?

Life can certainly get busy and I wish I could say I had a set schedule, but at this point I go by my list and priorities. There are some things I have to take care of daily, a few that can be pushed to a couple times a week, and some that have set hours that they need to be done. It’s all a juggling act…lol. There are days I look back and wonder how I did it all, and then there are days that I haven’t managed my time quite so well and missed the mark on a few things. But, you can’t stress over them. You move forward and try and get it all done the next day J.

Has the advent of ebooks changed anything in your writing, your marketing and the relationship with your readers and fans?

Since I’m a fairly new author, I’ve never known a time when there wasn’t ebooks. So, I’d have to say nothing has changed in the way I market or my writing. I do believe one of the biggest advantages to being an author now is that there are more opportunities to become published. I also like the fact that with all the social media sites out there I’ve been able to interact with a lot of my readers, and I love that.

What has been your experience in giving your books away free? Have you been involved in any other type of giveaways and how did that work out? What was your main goal in doing this? Did you run into any obstacles?

I’ve given away an ebook copy of each of my books on some blogs that I’ve appeared on and I’ve received a couple of reviews in return and that’s been wonderful. I’ve also given away some gift cards and have been involved with group blog hops where each author has offered a gift of their choosing. Those are fun for readers and authors alike. I mainly look at offering a gift as another way of getting your name out there. You never know who might win your book and enjoy it and then return to buy another title. And as for running into obstacles, so far I can’t think of anything…it’s all been good J.

I think the Buy The Book Tour is a great opportunity for authors to get exposure. Do you see any carryover to your own book success? Do you see an uptick in your social media traffic because of the tour?

Buy the Book Tours is an awesome partner in helping an author promote their works.

You just can’t go wrong if you are being exposed to blogs and other websites who have readers you might not otherwise connect with. Whenever I’ve participated in a blog tour I’ve always noticed an uptick in social media traffic and sales. Booking a blog tour with one of the many tour companies out there is a great way—and only one of many ways—to help build up your readers. But remember, as an author, there are many book tour companies and you need to do your research and find the one who offers a package that works best for your needs and budget.

Thanks so much for featuring me today, I had a wonderful time!

Author's Book List
Two-Timing the Boss
Farah Smith is on a mission: secure the funds for her twin sister’s surgery. She’ll do whatever it takes to succeed. Even if that means putting her values aside to work for a man she finds morally bankrupt. But when the real Farah meets her new boss, she wonders if she’ll be able to resist his sexy advances long enough to help her sister.

From the blonde wig, to the stilettos strapped around her ankles, Farah’s a clone of Keller Donovan’s harem of past assistants. She can’t believe she’s let herself be talked into the disguise, let alone working for the man planning to demolish the hospital her sister so desperately needs, but the salary he offers is the only way she’ll be able to afford her sister’s surgery. The moment Farah meets Keller she realizes her most daunting task isn’t typing, spreadsheets or organizing travel arrangements, but fighting the growing attraction toward a man whose ruthlessness is legendary in the boardroom as well as the bedroom.

Determined not to end up in a disastrous marriage like his divorced parents, Keller believes all relationships should have a shelf life of sixth months or less. But when he meets Farah, all bets are off. He not only wants her to continue as his personal assistant, but his own private bed warmer. Unfortunately, his offer of an affair doesn’t sit well with her fairytale dreams or the strangled hold gripping his heart.

Author Description:
Annette Drake is an aspiring writer whose work is character-driven and celebrates the law of unintended consequences. Her debut novel, Celebration House, will be published this summer in e-book format for readers everywhere by Tirgearr Publishing.

She left high school after two years to obtain her GED and attend Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, where she earned a degree in journalism. Annette worked as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Missouri and Kansas from 1987 to 1993. After earning a bachelor of science in nursing in 1994, she worked in hospitals in Missouri, Alaska and Washington for 18 years before returning her focus to writing.

Annette recently completed her middle-grade novel, Bone Girl, and is hard at work revising her steamy contemporary romance, A Year with Geno.

She is the mother of four children. A member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, Annette loves libraries, basset hounds and bakeries. She does not camp.

SPOTLIGHT Questions and Answers with the Author

First things first. Congratulations on the completion of Celebration House. Rumor has it that you have completed Bone Girl and are revising a steamy contemporary romance called, A Year with Geno. Can you tell us the timeline for its release and give us a little tease?

I haven’t found a home yet for Bone girl, my middle-grade novel, so I don’t know a release date. I hope the book will see daylight in 2014.

A Year with Geno is still being written. My goal is to finish this book by the end of this year and find a home for it in 2014. I’m a newbie author, but my experience has been that adult novels are easier to place than childrens books. I may be wrong; that’s just been my journey. I hope A Year with Geno will be published the fall of 2014. The novel starts during the Thanksgiving holiday, so that’s why I hope for a premier date in the fall.

A member of my writing critique group brought an article by Stephen King about “hookers” – you know, the first sentence of a book. I worked as a newspaper reporter and editor from 1988 thru 1993. In that industry, we call the first line of a story the “lead.” It’s a vital part of the story because the reporter wants to grab the reader’s attention and draw them end. To that end, I would like to offer up the “hooker” or “lead” to both of these novels.

Bone Girl: “Angry voices woke Josey.”

A Year with Geno: “The eviction notice, printed on crisp linen paper, arrived the day before Thanksgiving.”

I see you have done book signing and personal appearances? When and where is the next place where your readers can see you? Where can they keep up with your personal contacts online?

The library in my city is talking about hosting a local authors night this fall. I hope to participate in that. The county library in my community has offered to host me, solo, in January where I’ll talk about Celebration House and e-readers. The thought is that folks will receive e-readers as Christmas presents and be looking for information on how to use them. That’s when I’ll strike!

You can get her social media contact above.

Celebration House has a great cover. How does your book cover creation process work? Do you hand over the basic theme or do you have more of a hands-on approach?

I envisioned the cover of Celebration House as soon as Tirgearr Publishing offered me a contract. The first cover art I received was not what I wanted. Not at all. The second was much closer. It’s not perfect. I wanted Hugh Jackman to be the cover model, but there’s that pesky issue of money! But the second cover was close to what I hoped it would be.

I’ve been told that authors are given little if no input as to what the cover should look like. That’s disappointing. Who knows the book better than its creator? I think in the future, I’d welcome the same opportunity to share my vision for the cover as Tirgearr Publishing allowed me.

I know there’s a lot of controversy about self-published books, but in that respect, the authors are completely responsible for the cover. That’s a task I welcome.

What writer support groups do you belong too? Do they help with the writing, marketing and the publishing process?

I belong to SCBWI and the Inland Northwest Writers Guild. Most important to me is my writing critique group. We meet every Wednesday night to share our work. We’re a diverse group. We write poetry, horror, cop fiction and cross-cultural romance, but I think our diversity gives us unique perspectives.

I’ve just started a critique group for authors of picture-books. This is a distinctive kind of storytelling, very different from novel writing, and so I thought it deserved its own group. The response has been good.

What has been your experience in giving your books away free? Have you been involved in any other type of giveaways and how did that work out? Did you run into any obstacles?

I don’t have any experience giving away my writing for free. I placed my book, Bone Girl, on the Authonomy website, but I’ve since removed it. I’ve set a limit of 60 rejections for that manuscript, and if I reach that number, I may elect to self-publish it. I don’t know. It takes deep pockets to self-publish the right way, and I won’t consider handling that book anyway but the right way. Once Bone Girl is published, I think I can relax. This novel says most what I want my readers, especially kids, to hear: Within you, buried down deeply, you have the answers to your problems.

Have you ever done a book tour? If so, did it contribute to the sales of your book?

My family and I drove from our home in eastern Washington to the library in the community where Celebration House takes place - Lexington, Missouri. We left at 6 on a Thursday morning and arrived about 45 minutes before the speech was to start. The two residents who attended were such a pleasure to meet, and I believe that through them, word of Celebration House will spread. My publisher did mention that the book enjoyed a surge in sales after the trip.

How do you manage your plots, characters and timelines to keep your stories going? Do you use any software to keep track of your books?

I write a timeline for the book, and I’m constantly adding and taking away, rearranging plot points. But generally speaking, I have an idea of the timeline before I start. It’s one of the things the characters whisper to me. For example, Bone Girl takes place over a school year, August to May. A Year with Geno takes place, you guessed it, over the course of a year, from Thanksgiving to Thanksgiving. I don’t use software. That would be too easy. An ex-husband once told me I always do things the hard way. He was probably right.

You have an interesting blog. I got caught reading the blog rather than organizing questions for this article. What is your primary goal?

To get off my psych meds. I’m so kidding. I don’t take psych meds. I should, but I don’t. My goal for the blog is to entertain. I’m told that writers start a blog to build a following, a “platform.” I don’t know what that means. I hope people who read it get a chuckle or two and find me approachable.

What is your method of getting reviews for your novels? Do you seek professional reviews or no you rely on your reading audience to supply them?

My amazing editor, Maudeen Wachsmith, takes sole credit for the quote on the cover by Deb Stover. Thank you, Maudeen. Other reviews are ones that I, with the help of my husband and daughter, have solicited. I read an article by an experienced author who advised newbies, like myself, to never, ever read the reviews. I try to take his advice.

I would love to hear from readers. I have an email address for just that purpose: Write2me@AnnetteDrake.com.

When will your basset hound, Eeyore be featured in one of your books?

This is such a great question! Thank you for asking.

A Year with Geno has a basset hound in it, although his name is Bear, not Eeyore. He’s a lot like the pigeon-toed slobbery hound who shares my life.

However, Eeyore is the mascot for my publishing company, Baskethound Books. Would you like to hear our slogan? Baskethound Books: Titles to Drool Over. I have a business license for the company. I own the domain and started a Facebook page. The purpose is to someday publish the best of the picture-book manuscripts that languish on my computer hard drive. Someday…

Author's Book List
Celebration House
Carrie Hansen spent her life caring for cardiac patients. Little did she know she would become a patient herself. After recovering from her own heart surgery, she realizes she has a special gift: the ability to see and talk with the dead.

Now, with her new heart failing, she leaves the bustle of Seattle behind and returns to Lexington, Missouri, the small town where she spent her childhood. Here, she sets out to restore an abandoned antebellum mansion and open it as a venue for celebrations.

Carrie’s work is cut out for her. The 150-year-old Greek revival house is in need of serious repair. Her sister, Melanie, bullies Carrie into returning to Seattle, predicting “her little project” is doomed to fail. Finally, Carrie’s health gives out on her, requiring emergency surgery.

But she will not give up. Carrie’s unique gift allows her to build relationships with the mansion’s original occupants, especially Major Tom Stewart, the handsome Civil War soldier who died a hundred years before Carrie was born. He encourages and comforts her, though not in the physical way they both desire.

Then there’s the builder of the house, Colonel Bartholomew Stratton. If there’s one thing this 19th century horse trader cannot abide, it’s the living trespassing on his estate. He delights in scaring these intruders away, even if they are paying guests.

Will Carrie finish restoring Celebration House or will it finish her? And how can she plan a future with a man who only has a past?

Excerpt

Driving up to the house, Carrie smiled. She loved the long driveway, the poplar trees on both sides. Behind the trees, the fences had fallen into disrepair. Just one more thing she’d have to fix. She parked her car alongside the house and stacked her groceries and camping gear on the front porch. Seeing a small barn behind the main building, she decided to explore and see if there was room to park her car inside.

Carrie opened the door and stepped inside. Sunlight streamed in through the dirty windows. Even though the barn had been vacant for years, she smelled hay and horses.

Looking to her left, she saw a man shaving. He was bare from the waist up, his chest finely proportioned, lean, and muscular. His arms were powerfully built, and his right hand remained steady as he scraped the white soap from his angular jaw. His dark blue uniform pants were tucked into black leather knee-high riding boots. He stood at least six foot tall, and though Carrie hadn’t made her living in the carnival, she guessed he was probably younger than her, likely in his mid 20s. He peered intently at a small mirror tacked up on one of the barn walls. She waited to speak until after he’d finished the last swipe with the ivory-handled straight blade and had dipped it into the basin of soapy water.

“Good morning.”

He turned towards her suddenly, his expression an equal mix of surprise and annoyance. He dropped the razor and grabbed his shirt off a nearby nail. He turned his back to Carrie and pulled it on.

“You can see me, ma’am?” he asked, buttoning his shirt before stuffing it into his pants.

“Yes. Do you see me?”

“Yes, but I believe I have the advantage. I am dead. You are not.”

“I’m sorry to intrude on you. I’m Carrie Hansen,” she said, stepping toward him and extending her hand.

Without even thinking, he reached to shake her hand but his passed through hers. They both jerked back.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude,” she said.

“You surprised me. That’s all. We don’t get many visitors out here, especially living ones who can see us,” he said, putting his blue uniform coat over his shirt and buttoning the long row of brass buttons. “I’m Maj. Thomas Stewart, at your service,” he said, bowing formally at the waist.

“I am sorry I startled you. I sometimes forget that ghosts aren’t accustomed to being seen.”

“How may I be of service to you, Miss Hansen?”

“Where can I find Col. Stratton? I need to speak with him.”

His dark blue eyes showed his puzzlement. “The living do not go looking for Col. Stratton. What business do you have with him?”

“I bought this house, and I intend to live here.”

Author Description:
Nothing can compare to the exhilaration of discovering, at last, a mode of release for the imagination. Mine came, after years of struggling to visualize my creativity, in the form of written word. I found myself with my nose constantly in a book, absorbing the life of the characters and the beauty of the setting. It was intoxicating, to say the least, and the only thing I knew was that I wanted to give writing a shot, and take the thousands of characters and storylines in my head and put them down on paper, and form them into something real and compelling.

In truth, I'm just a girl from a small town north of Los Angeles, with an imagination for days and thank goodness a keyboard at my fingertips. And even though my husband thinks I'm a nerd and my mom is undoubtedly my biggest fan, at the end of the day I'm loving life and enjoying giving breath to the characters living in my heart, and sharing with others all the creativity I can harness.

I believe in true love, and I've always believed in happy endings. And that is just the beginning of the story.

SPOTLIGHT Questions and Answers with the Author

Let’s start with what’s next, a ghostly romance called So Fell the Sparrow. Can you tell us the timeline for its release and give us a little tease? Also, do you have another book on the horizon? Rumor has it that there is a third Vasser book in the works.

So Fell the Sparrow will release on November 21st, with a prequel short-story releasing September 21st that will offer a sneak peek of the main book. Here is the blurb for So Fell the Sparrow:

Blurb

Grieving the tragic death of her parents, Dr. Grace Sullivan travels to her father's secret home in Massachusetts, only to discover the house, and the spirits within it, are a terrifying addiction she can’t shake. Joined by a ghost hunter duo and a medium, skeptical Grace finds herself not only becoming a believer, but falling in love, as well.

There is a third Vasser book that I was talked into writing, given that so many readers wanted more of the Vasser family. I just started outlining it, but it’s tentatively scheduled to release in May or June of 2014.

You have a good following on twitter. How important have your social media relationships been? Do you see a carry over to your writing success?

Social media relationships have been everything to me. Through interacting with the author community, I have met so many wonderful people and forged lifelong friendships. The most important contact I’ve made was with the brilliant team at Blue Harvest Creative, who does all my book design work and created my amazing website. If it wasn’t for social media, I wouldn’t have the success I have today.

Do you do book signings, interviews, speaking and personal appearances? If so, when and where is the next place where your readers can see you? Where can they keep up with your personal contacts online?

Most of my presence is online. I’m very active with Facebook and on Twitter, and love to communicate with readers that way. I also have a blog where I try to post regularly and reach out to people who enjoy my work.

You have great covers. They carry a theme and your brand with them. How does your book cover creation process work? Do you hand over the basic theme or do you have more of a hands-on approach? Do you get your readers involved in its development?

Thank you! I create my own covers, but always seek the opinions of those I trust to be sure I got it right. For me it’s all about the imagery. Once I find my image, the cover pretty much creates itself. Of course, there are so many crucial elements to make a cover extraordinary, so I make sure to get professional opinions as well. I haven’t gotten readers involved before, but it’s something I may do in the future!

You have several great book trailers. (See links below.) They look very professional. Do you know how much impact they have had on your book’s success? Tell us about the process that you used to create your trailers? Do you use the trailer in your character development? Are the pictures and background the way you see your characters and scenes?

I think book trailers are a crucial part to any book marketing plan. As long as they are done correctly and look professional, they can be a great way to entice readers. Who doesn’t love watching movie trailers? Book trailers are the same way. There’s a lot of emotion you can convey in a one minute trailer, using both music and imagery, so there’s no reason not to take advantage of it. It’s hard to say how they impact sales, but if the big guys are doing them, then it must be worth doing. For those looking to get a book trailer made, mine are done through Blue Harvest Creative.

What writer support groups do you belong too? Do they help with the writing, marketing and the publishing process?

As an official author of Blue Harvest Creative, I have so much support coming from them and from the other official authors. BHC isn’t a publisher, so we are all still self-published and in full control of our work, but we get beautifully designed books, marketing advice and promotion, and unrivaled industry experience to help us navigate the waters of publishing. We also support each other by beta-reading, which is so crucial when writing a book.

What has been your experience in giving your books away free? Have you been involved in any other type of giveaways and how did that work out? What was your main goal in doing this? Did you run into any obstacles?

If you had asked me this same question exactly one year ago, I would have raved to you about the success I’ve had doing free promotions on Amazon. Sadly, the landscape has changed dramatically in that short time as the market became flooded with so many free books, readers couldn’t sift through them all. I have since removed my books from Amazon’s exclusive program and am now putting them up on other sites like Barnes and Noble. I was fortunate enough to catch the free promotion wave at a good time and saw amazing sales numbers from it, but these days things are much different. I don’t know if I’d recommend it now.

Have you ever done a book tour? If so, did it contribute to the success of your book sales?

I have, and no, not really. I think some blog book tours can be successful, as long as they are done right. If the blogs you are featured on are big name blogs with thousands of followers, then you stand a chance at making sales. Sadly, most blogs out there only have a few hundred followers and honestly it’s more authors than readers populating those blogs, anyway. However, if you find a website, such as BestChickLit.com, and utilize their paid service for book tours, you will find it is much more successful. Websites such as this one have connections that we as authors don’t have, and they will run the whole tour for you which is amazing.

You have a great blog. You do a great job keeping readers informed, marketing your books and providing useful information to other writers. What is your primary goal? And where in the world do you find the time to create great novels, take care of the social media and maintain your blog?

Thank you! I’m trying to update my blog much more regularly these days by posting things that interest readers. I’m doing a fourteen week blog series about ghosts and ghost hunting to help promote So Fell the Sparrow, which I hope will build up lots of hype for the book. I have no idea how I have time for everything, as I always feel like I’m behind. I have a backlogged list of things to do and it seems there aren’t enough hours in the day!

What is your method of getting reviews for your novels? Do you seek professional reviews or no you rely on your reading audience to supply them?

I seek professional reviews by sending out a few advanced review copies of my books, and after that I leave it up to my readers to review. Getting reviews is something that plagues so many of us authors, but we need to be patient. Readers are not easily fooled; if they see a book with two hundred glowing reviews, they may get suspicious. Better to have only a few, verified, thoughtful reviews that truly reflect the book. Quality over quantity, as they always say.

Rise of the Notorious
When their empire fell, darkness descended upon the Vasser Hotel family and shrouded them in chaos. It was a darkness layered in violent sins and staggering deception, made only more potent by a haunting truth. Murder, it seemed, was a burden they couldn't escape.

With a scandal plaguing the family's reputation, the Vasser heirs must rise to the occasion and utilize a killer's advice to turn bad publicity into good, and tradition into innovation.

If only it was that easy.

In an elaborate game of hidden motives and sinister agendas, more dirty truths from the past will resurface, truths that could bring about victory or bloodshed. But how will the Vasser siblings react when the real threat to their family not only has power and control on the mind, but assassination as well? What will they do when it becomes clear that someone out there wants them destroyed, no matter the price?

The Vassers may have fallen from grace, but now they will rise as notorious.

Enter the newest generation of Vasser heirs: three siblings now running the Vasser Hotel in New York City, each with their own agenda. Principled and serious Grant; charming playboy Linc; and ruthlessly secretive Madison. They soon discover that swimming in the undercurrents of their own family's dark past could prove to be disastrous.

Family may be the ties that bind, but When Empires Fall, they are the ties that kill.
